Marijuana advocates blast Obama over Oaksterdam University raid
Six organizations looking to reform U.S. drug laws urged President Barack Obama to halt raids on medical marijuana providers following the raid on Oaksterdam University in California.
“Our coalition represents the views of tens of millions of Americans who believe the war on medical marijuana patients and providers you are fighting is misguided and counterproductive,” Drug Policy Alliance, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, Marijuana Policy Project, National Cannabis Industry Association, National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, and Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) wrote in a letter to the President.
Oaksterdamn University, which trained people to work in the booming medical marijuana industry, was raided by federal agents on Monday.
As I posted earlier via Mother Jones:
“The Oaksterdam raid isn’t a surprise considering the Obama administration’s about-face on medical marijuana. The president campaigned on the promise that he’d stop federal raids on medical marijuana operations that were in compliance with state laws, a vow that Attorney General Eric Holder repeated after the election. But then the Obama administration raided more than 100 dispensaries in its first three years and is now poised to outpace the Bush administration’s crackdown record”.
Personally, I think the Obama administrations choice to go back on all of their promises surrounding medical marijuana is incredibly troubling. How can anyone support him after he has broken all of his most important promises?
